The organisation Lírica Disidente has been awarded the 2024 Presidential Award for the Performing Arts in the Emerging Artist category, a distinction granted by the State of Chile through the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.
The ceremony, led by President Gabriel Boric at the La Moneda Palace, highlighted the work of creators who have made decisive contributions to the development of the performing arts in the country. In his speech, the President emphasised: “By honouring you, we are honouring part of the essence of our homeland. You represent something deeper than yourselves.”

President Gabriel Boric and the Minister of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Carolina Arredondo, attended the award ceremony.
This recognition positions Lírica Disidente as a reference point in the renewal of contemporary opera in Chile and Latin America, through artistic proposals that place social critique, territorial perspectives and interdisciplinary dialogue at the centre. Since its founding in 2019, the organisation has launched projects such as the National Independent Opera Gathering (ENOI), which combines training, creation and performance, and has established itself as an unprecedented platform for young opera and performing artists.
“Receiving this important recognition from the State of Chile is a huge endorsement of the work we have carried out to reconfigure opera in the country, proposing new approaches and perspectives that bring this wonderful stage-musical language closer to people, and promoting opera as an active part of the cultural calendar with strong, innovative productions of the highest artistic standards. This award validates that path and confirms the impact independent opera can have when it is well structured and connected with the creative ecosystem of the country and the region. With this recognition, we continue to invite Chile and its institutions to support independent opera as a strategic ally in giving new life to opera in Chile,” said Nicolás Vásquez, General Director of Lírica Disidente.
The company is currently preparing the premiere of Don Giovanni – Power, Desire and Impunity, which will close the ENOI 2025 Opera School. This critical version of Mozart’s classic will be presented on 29, 30 and 31 August at the Aula Magna of the CEINA Cultural Centre, in co-production with the São Paulo Opera Company.
Recently, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage announced that in August it will open applications for the 2025 edition of the Presidential Award for the Performing Arts, which recognises individuals, ensembles and companies that have made a lasting contribution to the development of the performing arts in Chile.
