La traviata viaja por Tenerife

The tour of the Magma Arte & Congresos and the Hotel Taoro de La traviata is part of the Ópera Pocket programme of the Ópera of Tenerife, which brings the opera to a new public by taking it to different spaces of the island. This production has the stage direction of Alejandro Abrante and the musical direction of Alessandro Palumbo.

The Auditorio de Tenerife continues with its policy of taking the opera through the municipalities and within the season Ópera de Tenerife program La traviata for its staging during the month of May at the Magma Arte & Congresos, in Adeje, and in the gardens of the old Hotel Taoro, in Puerto de la Cruz. The functions will be on days 11 and 12 in the south of the island and 18 and 19 in the north.

The details were announced by the insular director of Culture, José Luis Rivero; the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Cristóbal de la Rosa; the Councilor for Culture of Puerto de la Cruz, Sandra Rodriguez, and the stage director of this production, Alejandro Abrante.

Rivero explained that “Opera Pocket addresses its second of three years with this title; this program pursues three objectives: the first being a local production with international quality made entirely in Tenerife; the second objective set by President Carlos Alonso is the relocation of cultural elements and it has been a challenge to think about how to make an opera to take it outside the auditorium and even in open spaces, and the third objective is to bring the opera to new audiences and for this it is best to take it to unused places. ” “In short,” adds the insular director of Culture, “we want to bring the opera to as many people as possible.”

Alejandro Abrante recalls that “it was a very exciting project from the beginning; We have been faithful to Verdi’s score. ” The stage director affirms that “we have had the University of La Laguna and the students of the CIFP Las Indias, who have collaborated in the process of building the costumes”. Abrante points out that “from the culture we have to promote feminism and eradicate the androcentric values ​​of society and La traviata has much to contribute in that sense”.

This production of Ópera de Tenerife made entirely on the island, will be shown under the Opera Pocket format, which is part of the cultural lines of the strategy Tenerife 2030 Cabildo, whose goal is to bring the opera to a new public by taking it to different spaces of the island. La traviata was presented for the first time in the 2017-2018 season of Ópera de Tenerife, which was represented at the Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna and in Garachico.

Alejandro Abrante will reflect the atmosphere and the characters with whom Verdi tried to capture the details of a society marked by androcentrism. Also, deepens in this aspect through the psychological characteristics of the three women with whom Verdi had to face to compose this opera: Alphonsine Duplessis, Marguerite Gautier and Violetta Valèry.

scenography Jorge Cabrera’s, which is technically conceived to take the opera out of the usual scenarios, will transport the viewer to a nineteenth-century Paris where the fusion of constructive elements and the new materials of the industrial revolution coexist, such as wrought iron or glass .

Alessandro Palumbo repeats as musical director, being his fifth presence in Ópera de Tenerife, after Don Quichotte in 2014; Hänsel und Gretel in 2015, Don Pasquale in 2016 and La traviata in 2018. This time it will be the second in front of the Opera Orchestra of Tenerife.

This production will have a cast formed by Julia Muzychenko (soprano); David Astorga (tenor); Nina Solodovnikova (soprano); Gillén Mungía (tenor); Daniel Terenzi (baritone); Pablo Gálvez (baritone); Christina Campsall (mezzo-soprano); Francesco Venuti (baritone); Borja Molina (baritone); Aleksandr Utkin (bass); María José Torres (soprano); Badel Albelo (tenor); Ángel Silva (bass); Árgel Campos (tenor) and Néstor Suárez (tenor). Also on this occasion will be the Choir of the Opera of Tenerife, directed by Carmen Cruz.
