The Colón Theater in Buenos Aires presented its 2022 Season

The Buenos Aires Coliseum presented the excellence of a season full of proposals for all audiences: 7 lyrical titles, 5 ballets, 19 concerts by the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, a series of concerts by the teacher Martha Argerich with special guests, 10 recitals with notable artists in the framework of Great International Interpreters, the return of Colón para Chicos with a selection of operas and ballets, the traditional free chamber music cycle at the Salón Dorado will offer 12 recitals among great proposals throughout 2022.

The dazzling international visits of Martha Argerich, Javier Camarena, Plácido Domingo, Anna Netrebko, Roberto Alagna, Charles Dutoit and outstanding guest dancers such as Roberto Bolle, Polina Semionova, Herman Cornejo and Natalia Osipova among so many brilliant artists who will be present on the stage of the first Colosseum in the 2022 season.

 

This morning, in the foyer, the General Director of the Teatro Colón María Victoria Alcaraz announced the various artistic activities that will take place during 2022, accompanied by the Head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, the Chief of Cabinet of Ministers of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires Felipe Miguel and the Minister of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, Enrique Avogadro.

 

María Victoria Alcaraz, General Director of the Teatro Colón, began the event by stating: “It is a joy to be able to announce a new season of the Teatro Colón, from this place, where until a few days ago a detect unit operated. During the almost 2 years of the pandemic, the Colón never stopped and strengthened its close ties with the community more than ever ”. To later continue: “It also makes me happy and fills me with pride that we have managed to realize an idea that we dreamed of with Horacio and that we worked side by side with Felipe for 4 years: Being able to add a new cultural space in the city such as Colón Fábrica. That in its first month of life it was already visited by more than 29,000 residents and tourists. This shows us that when there are projects, when there is planning and when there is passion, there is no obstacle to stop us. Today we announce a new season, which is neither more nor less than announcing new times, times of art, effort and work for this great city team. Next, it was the turn of Felipe Miguel who took the opportunity to highlight: “We are very happy to present a new season of the Teatro Colón after a year and a half so difficult for culture, for those of us who enjoy it and have been missing it. I want to thank and congratulate Enrique Avogadro, María Victoria Alcaraz, and all the theater workers not only for the programming we have for next year, but also very especially for having been a testing center and having always been available with everything that led to this pandemic ”. In addition, he invited all the residents of the City to come closer to the Theater: “We can all come to the Colón Theater. It is open to all. This is what we promote from the Government of the City, so those who still do not have the pleasure of knowing it, I insist that they do so, come and enjoy it. It is one of the cultural wonders of the world, and we have it in Buenos Aires. This year, in addition, with a program that incorporates proposals for all ages and tastes, but with the quality to which the Teatro Colón has become accustomed ”.

 

Enrique Avogadro, expressed: “Today is a very special day for everyone. After going through very hard times due to the pandemic, we began to walk the roads of recovery and enjoyment. The Colón was offered to the artistic community as a testing center and gradually opened its doors when an opening plan could be organized. Taking into account what we have gone through, being able to announce the new season today is something that makes us very happy ”.

 

To close the event, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta stated: “It is a pride to be here and a great joy to present again a season with much more presence than we had. I want to highlight and thank that the Colón Theater adapted to all the needs of the City, being one of the largest testing centers for all the residents of the city. ” To continue: “The step we took with the opening of the Colón Fábrica is enormous, expanding our cultural offer in the city, which is expanding more and more with the main tourist attractions. The Colón is a symbol of this rebirth with everything we are doing throughout the city. So I congratulate you all with great emotion and we are moving forward ”.

 

The season

 

The 2022 Lyrical Season consists of 7 titles with new stage productions and the leading presence of two stellar international couples: Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov in Tosca and Javier Camarena and Nadine Sierra in L’elisir d’amore. The opening will take place during the month of March with La Bohème, by Giacomo Puccini, under the stage direction of Stefano Trespidi and a national and international cast of great performers. Then a new production by the Teatro Colón continues: El consul, by Gian Carlo Menotti, directed by Rubén Szuchmacher. Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi will be another new production by the Teatro Colón that will feature stage direction, set design and costumes by Stefano Poda. The opportunity of one of the most celebrated operas in the Italian repertoire will be presented in August with a new production by the Teatro Colón de L’elisir d’amore, by Gaetano Donizetti, under the stage direction of Emilio Sagi and the stellar interpretation of Javier Camarena and Nadine Sierra.

 

The Seven Deadly Sins, by Kurt Weill / Bluebeard’s Castle, by Béla Bartók will take the stage during the month of September. The Pearl Fishers, by Georges Bizet, under the stage direction of Michal Znaniecki, will be a new production by the Teatro Colón in co-production with the Teatr Wielki w Łodzi in Poland. To close a lyrical season of excellence with Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini and the starring vocal starring of the Russian soprano Anna Netrebko and the Azeri tenor Yusif Eyvazov in a production by Roberto Oswald (1933-2013) one of the most important conductors of scene of the house -who, in addition, adds the scenography and lighting design- appearing for the first time in 1992 and dazzling in the 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2016 seasons.

 

The Chamber Opera of the Teatro Colón is a space for collaboration and work between young artists and established artists. This coming 2022 there will be three titles that will stand out: Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini, Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali by Gaetano Donizetti, and Little Women by Mark Adamo.

 

Under the direction of Paloma Herrera, the Stable Ballet of the Colón Theater will present 5 emblematic titles from different periods and styles that expose the versatility of the company: Giselle with choreography by Gustavo Mollajoli and the participation of guest dancers such as Natalia Osipova (Royal Ballet) and Isaac Hernández (English National Ballet). Then a Mixed Program composed by Sinfonietta by Leoš Janáček with choreography by Czech Jiří Kylián and Carmen by Georges Bizet will continue with a new choreography created by Alejandro Cervera. In September, La fille mal gardée by Ferdinand Hérold with choreography by Sir Frédérick Ashton, Romeo and Juliet with choreography by Sir Kenneth MacMillan, and the special participation of the guest dancer Herman Cornejo (American Ballet) will be presented during the month of November, to later give It came to the end of the season with the famous operetta by Franz Lehár The Merry Widow under the choreography of Ronald Hydn and the participation as a guest dancer by the Italian Roberto Bolle with the Russian dancer Polina Semionova.

 

The Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, under the musical direction of Enrique Arturo Diemecke, will display a colorful symphonic mosaic throughout its 19 concerts. Among the invited conductors, the participation of Edo de Waart, Charles Dutoit, Alpesh Chauhan, Josep Vicent, Alejo Pérez and Baldur Brönimann stand out. The season will also feature the presence of the outstanding Venezuelan conductor Glass Marcano, recently awarded in Paris. The young violinist Noa Wildschut, the pianist Javier Perianes, the clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer, the pianist Ingrid Fliter, the guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas, the pianist Sergio Tiempo and the pianist Khatia Buniatishvili will perform as soloists among great guests.

 

From August 12 to 20, the teacher Martha Argerich will be the epicenter of a series of concerts that will evoke the spirit of her legendary festivals at the Teatro Colón. They will have special guests, including the prestigious conductor Charles Dutoit and the actress Annie Dutoit-Argerich, their daughter.
