Gran Teatro Nacional of Perú premieres the family opera “The City Under the Sea”

The family opera that reflects on the issue of pollution in the seas will be presented from February 9th to 24th on the Lima stage, with the participation of the National Children’s Choir and the Orchestra Bicentennial National Youth Symphony

 

 

Gran Teatro Nacional of Lima increases its family shows offer by programming productions of prestigious foreign companies, didactic concerts, theatre for babies, children’s operas and their own shows. The first premiere of the year will be a production of the theater “The city under the sea”, which will be presented on 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd and 24th February, with the participation of the National Choir of Children of Peru and the Bicentennial National Youth Symphony Orchestra.

 

The story, created by the composer Nilo Velarde and with the libretto by Maritza Núñez Bejarano, has as protagonists mysterious children-choirs that inhabit the peaceful city of Meriterras. These little sea creatures are reborn every 25 years and stay awake only 37 hours, time that they use to give a beautiful underwater spectacle.

 

But this time, the air and water pollution interrupts the process of creation and preservation in Meriterras, its inhabitants are trapped in plastic bags and waste, causing suffering and despair. Seeing that his friends do not wake up, Elis – a sea creature, decides to go up to the surface to ask for help from humans. He meets Alejandra and Hugo, two small children who together with a marine biologist and her uncle will do everything possible to save the mythological city under the sea.

 

The fantastic characters will be represented by 70 members of the Children’s National Choir of Peru, cast by Mónica Canales, accompanied by the live music of the Bicentennial National Youth Symphony Orchestra, led by maestro Pablo Sabat.

 

Tickets for the show cost 15 to 60 soles and are on sale in Teleticket and the ticket office of Gran Teatro Nacional. There is a 50% discount for minors under 17 years of age, university and higher education students, over 60s, teachers of public educational institutions, members of the Voluntary Military Service and members of CONADIS.
