COVID-19: Changes in seasons of OLA Network’s members

Due to the measures taken by OMS for the spread of COVID-19, some Latin American theaters are beginning to cancel shows to be held during the month of March. 

 

 

The list by country, theater and modified production is detailed below with the information updated today.

ARGENTINA

TEATRO COLÓN OF BUENOS AIRES

Teatro Colón reports that, following the provisions and measures announced in Decree No. 140-20 of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, all functions and scheduled guided tours are suspended until April 19 inclusive.

 

  • Teatro Colón Experimentation Center: Foco Gerardo Gandini. Functions on March 12, 13, 14 and 15.
  • Opera Nabucco. Functions on March 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 25, 27 and 28.
  • Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra (Season Ticket 1). Function on March 19.
  • Argentine Interpreters Cycle: Quartet National University of La Plata. Function on March 21.
  • Argentine Interpreters Cycle: Alberto Ginastera Choir. Function on March 22.
  • Academic Orchestra of the Higher Institute of Art. Function on March 26.

TEATRO DEL BICENTENARIO DE SAN JUAN

By order of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture it is communicated that, due to the sanitary provisions taken in relation to the prevention of contagion of respiratory contagion diseases, all functions, guided tours and ticket service are suspended until further notice.

 

The value of the tickets purchased in cash will be refunded, presenting the same, at the theater box office from next Wednesday, March 18, from 10:00 to 20:00 and, the tickets purchased by credit card, the purchase amount will be refunded in the next summary. 

 

 

JUVENTUS LYRICA

Due to preventive measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the sale of fertilizers for the 2020 season is suspended until further notice. We will be in contact through our usual communication channels to report on the resumption of our activities.

 

BRAZIL

FESTIVAL AMAZONAS DE ÓPERA OF MANAUS

The Secretary of State for Culture and Creative Economy suspends the programming of cultural spaces managed by the portfolio. The Amazonas jazz festival, Festival Amazonas de Ópera, as well as the rehearsals of Bumbás were postponed. The measure is preventive and complies with the recommendation of the Ministry of Health and the Government of Amazonas to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the State.

 

According to the secretary Marcos Apolo Muniz, all activities in cultural spaces will be suspended until April 1, at this first moment. The agenda will be reevaluated every fortnight, according to the state scenario.

 

“We are restructuring our agenda with the reprogramming of a series of cultural activities that were planned within our calendar, as well as we will review the opening hours of public spaces administered by the secretariat, to follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Secretary of State of Saúde, regarding the containment of the coronavirus in the State ”, he declares. “We will keep the public updated every 15 days or also when necessary to inform.”

 

Festivals: to avoid crowding, the Amazonas Theater will not have tourist visits and has postponed the tenth edition of the Amazonas Jazz Festival, which will take place from March 21 to 29. The only activity of the event that remains is the audience for the semifinal of the Young Instrumentalists Contest. The evaluations of the 14 candidates take place from Monday (03/16) to Thursday (03/19), without audience.

 

Festival Amazonas de Ópera, which took place from April 18 to June 7, will also be postponed. The new festival dates will be announced in due course.

THEATER SAO PEDRO OF SAO PAULO

Santa Marcelina Cultura reports that following the guidelines of the São Paulo State Government and the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, Theatro São Pedro will start operating from March 13, with a maximum occupancy of 70% of its capacity. The concerts of this weekend are maintained for the 2020 Season of the São Pedro Theater Orchestra, conducted by Luis Otavio Santos.

According to a decree from the Government of Minas Gerais, events with more than 100 people, scheduled until April 13 in the spaces of Fundação Clóvis Salgado will be suspended and may be rescheduled or canceled.

CHILE

MUNICIPAL DE SANTIAGO 

By virtue of the progressive advance of the coronavirus in the country and the announcement of the President of the Republic on Friday, March 13 in which, among other measures, from this Monday all public events for more than 500 people will be prohibited, the Directorate General of the Municipal de Santiago together with the Directory chaired by the Mayor Felipe Alessandri, have had to suspend all the shows originally scheduled from next Monday March 16, 2020, and until next May inclusive.

 

This measure, taken to mitigate the risk of contagion, affects the shows in the main hall that include ballet, opera, concerts, recitals and Pequeño Municipal performances. All the shows scheduled at the Arrau Hall from today until next May inclusive, in addition to the guided tours, should also have been suspended.

 

For those who have already purchased their tickets for these shows, the Municipal Theater will create a virtual card associated with the buyer’s RUT with the amount equivalent to their ticket (s), which can be used when the suspended shows are rescheduled or in the purchase of other titles of the season. This virtual card can be exchanged at our ticket offices at Agustinas 794 or Parque Arauco (local 352). During this period, and to the extent that sanitary conditions allow, the workers of the Municipal Theater will continue to perform their functions. If necessary, flexible criteria will be applied on a case-by-case basis.

TEATRO DEL LAGO DE FRUTILLAR

Following the spread of the coronavirus in the country and the recent announcement by President Sebastián Piñera to close international borders, strengthen quarantine compliance and restrict public events to a maximum of 50 people, the Teatro del Lago Foundation has had to suspend all its shows and activities scheduled for April. This is in addition to the previously announced suspension of their March schedule, such as guided tours.

The measure affects the realization of the Teatro del Lago International Academy and its Easter Concert (April 5 to 11), one of the most important artistic-educational projects of the Theater and which had confirmed the participation of 70 musicians and students from from 10 countries, who would work with the English director John Wilson along with four other outstanding teachers.

Likewise, the projections of the opera Fidelio, starring in the Royal Opera House (April 17) and the ballet Swan Lake, belonging to the season of the Bolshoi ballet (April 18), were canceled; the celebration of International Dance Day, which included various activities for the community (April 18); the arts education program for students and teachers, Eduvida (April 28 and 29); the celebrations that the theater had contemplated within the framework of Book Day (April 23); and the international contemporary circus show, The Artist (April 24 and 25).

TEATRO REGIONAL LUCHO GATICA, RANCAGUA

Due to the progressive increase of the coronavirus in the country and the announcements of the President of the Republic, the Corporation for Culture and the Arts reports the following actions, in order to help protect the public, artists and our workers.

We suspend the shows scheduled from Monday March 16 at Teatro Regional Lucho Gatica.

The cleanliness and hygiene of our rooms and spaces is increased, seeking to ensure the availability of gel alcohol, garbage cans in the access to rooms, the Theater ticket office and common spaces of all our venues. Increase the frequency of hand washing according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health. This applies before and after attending cultural centers, regardless of the reason.

Workshop classes such as ballet and orchestra rehearsals are suspended.

 

 

CENTRO DE EXTENSIÓN ARTÍSTICA Y CULTURAL DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE CHILE CEAC

Due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus in our country, and in line with the measures announced by the President of the Republic this March 13 – including the ban on holding high-level events -, the Centro de Extensión Artística y Cultural de la Universidad de Chile, CEAC confirms the suspension of all concerts and shows of its ensembles, scheduled for the months of March and April 2020.

Those who have purchased their tickets for the concerts to be held at the Caupolicán Theater should contact puntoticket.com directly to request a refund of their money from Tuesday, March 17. Due to the health emergency, the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo will reschedule all the shows scheduled from March 15 to May 31.

 

For the month of March, Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo will reschedule the shows in the Teatro Mayor room and will keep its programming at the Teatro Estudio, until further arrangements.

 

They will be reprogrammed:

THEATRO SÁNCHEZ AGUILAR OF SAMBORONDÓN

Once known the measures implemented by the national government in relation to COVID – 19, which provides for the indefinite suspension of massive events with capacities of more than 250 people and, in co-responsibility and care of the public, the planned presentations, works and concerts are postponed , until the culmination of the Easter holiday.

Regarding the rental events scheduled for these dates, each employer will notify them in a timely manner.

SPAIN

TEATRO REAL OF MADRID

Teatro Real, following the measures adopted by the Council of Ministers regarding the Coronavirus COVID-19 and in accordance with the Government of Spain and the Community of Madrid has taken the following measures:  

 

1.- performances on the 17th, 19th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 25th of March the opera Achilles in Sciros, whose premiere was scheduled for next Tuesday, March 17th, will take place behind closed doors, without an audience, and will be broadcast live to through the video platform of Teatro Real “My Opera Player”.

 

The functions on March 26 and 27 are awaiting the next guidelines from the Health Authorities.

 

All subscribers and ticket buyers of this opera will be able to enjoy it for free, on the same day and time that they planned to attend the Teatro Real, through the “My Opera Player” platform. 

 

2.- The function on March 27 will be broadcast live for all of Spain by La 2 de TVE in a special program that will start at 19:15 and for the rest of Europe on the ARTE channel.  

Likewise, Achilles in Sciros can be heard through the European Broadcasting Union (UER) on March 25, and on March 28, at 8:00 p.m., through Radio Nacional de España (RNE).

 

3.- Regarding the rest of the programming of Teatro Real, the following are suspended:

  • Los Nibelungos (March 21 and 28).
  • Concert Francisco Viñas (March 22).
  • Flamenco Real (March 13, 20 and 27).
  • Jazz Real (March 19).
  • Guided and free visits to the Royal Theater.

4.- For its part, the children’s functions of the show Historia de Babar, scheduled between March 14 to 22, are postponed until May.

 

 

TEATRO DEL CANAL

The Community of Madrid closes Teatros del Canal, the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Auditorium Theater and the Canal Choreographic Center as a consequence of the coronavirus (COVID-19) evolution for 15 calendar days. The shows that will be affected are:

  • Curva España, from the Chévere company.
  • Love Chapter 2 by LEV (Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar).
  • The Plaza de El Conde de Torrefiel.
  • Achterland by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and her company Rosas.
  • The Imitation of life show by the Hungarian company Proton Theater. 

In the case of the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Auditorium Theater, the Easter Festival which was scheduled for April 9, 10 and 11 and which included three concerts: Madre de Deus. Music and medieval liturgy, by Capella de Ministrers; He died for sin: Spanish sacred songs, from Concerto 1700; and Music for Lent, by La Grande Chapelle. The performances of these three musical groups are transferred to the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Summer Festival with a repertoire and dates still to be determined.

GRAN TEATRO DEL LICEU

Gran Teatre Liceu of the announced until March 26 suspended all planned activity,including the presentation of 2020/21 season on March 18. As the situation progresses, the Theater will announce a new presentation date.

 

The new emergency phase announced today by the Generalitat of Catalonia, as well as the impossibility of continuing with the normality of production trials, means that the Liceu is forced to suspend all production of Lohengrin de Wagner scheduled for March 19 to April 5 -7 performances-.

The 4 functions schoolchildren IT Dansa at the Teatre Auditori de Sant Cugat have also been canceled due to the attendance of more than one educational center in each representation. The suspension also affects the only family function of this same show due to the restriction of the capacity, as well as the concert OFF Liceu scheduled at the Foyer del Liceu.

 

Gran Teatre del Liceu will contact all those who are affected by the suspension of artistic activity to inform them of all the options.

 

 

AUDITORIO DE TENERIFE – ÓPERA DE TENERIFE

Auditorio de Tenerife, based on the measures that the Tenerife Council has adopted, suspends or postpones all its shows and activities with public attendance scheduled for the next 14 days starting today, Thursday, March 12, 2020.

Tickets purchased for Mulieribus from the Tenerife Baroque Orchestra (today March 12), Lyric from the Creative Pan-Hispanic Music cycle (March 14), Lucrezia Borgia from Tenerife Opera (March 17, 19 and 21), Structures of Quantum Ensemble (March 20) will be returned automatically as soon as possible in the same form of payment with which they were purchased.

As for Lucrezia Borgia, despite the fact that access to the public is suspended, work is being done to stream the show on Tuesday 17 at 7:30 p.m. We will continue to report.

Concerts are suspended: Musical Spring (March 15), A concert with two faces by Fimante + Nao (March 14), Quantum Ensemble School Concert (March 20), Professional Conservatory Concert (March 21) and Musical Spring (March 22).

The sessions of Escuela del Espectador, Opera en Ruta, Dance in Community and Theater at School are postponed.

The scenography course was postponed with Ricardo Sánchez Cuerda (March 16, 17 and 18) and Romancero gitano de Cía. Nuria Espert within the framework of the Ibero-American Scenic Show MEI, whose tickets will be automatically returned as soon as possible in the same form of payment with which they were purchased. TEATRO DE LA ZARZUELA

After the publication of Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14, declaring the state of alarm for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19, the measures included in this information are extended, to less, until March 29 (inclusive).

 

Following the package of additional measures announced by the Council of Ministers in “high transmission areas” of Covid-19, the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture and Sport, has decided to adopt a series of temporary measures in order to guarantee the health of our spectators and users:

 

  • The closure during the next fifteen days of all our scenic spaces in Madrid (National Music Auditorium, the Zarzuela Theater, the Comedy Theater, the María Guerrero Theater and the Valle-Inclán Theater) and, therefore, the cancellation of all the shows of the organization and of private entities organized in these venues during those dates.
  • The suspension of teaching activity at the Show Technology Center (CTE) until March 26 (inclusive).
