Review: Teatro Cafam is an important space for cultural life in Bogotá, Colombia. It was inaugurated in 2008 during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Caja de Compensación, and in 15 years of existence we have programmed more than 2,500 performances. Our artistic proposal includes theater shows, concerts, zarzuela and, of course, lyrical works and oratorios, with Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana being the most recent presentation.

Diversity of artist disciplines are continuously presented in the theater with a program suitable for all audiences “We consider that it is very important and enriching for culture to create circulation spaces for the arts. Our theater is willing to receive several of the productions from the participating stages of OLA and also have the opportunity to share our productions with other Latin American stages”, mentions Fernando Barrero, director of culture, public relations and media at Cafam.

In this artistic space there are the highest technological and capacity standards, where more than 2,000 people can attend and enjoy a variety of events inside the room. Outside, in the square, there is a capacity for 1,200 people, where audiences of all ages and artistic tastes can congregate to watch the concerts and shows on giant screens.

“The main inspiration for the construction of the theater was the current director of the compensation fund, Dr. Luis Gonzalo Giraldo Marín”, explains Fernando Barrero. In a news article published by the newspaper El Tiempo the year of the inauguration, Giraldo affirmed that “Culture is part of the needs in a modern society like many others and we believe that it is our obligation to interpret that need. And nothing better than this gift in the 50 years of Cafam”.
