Francisco Sánchez and Tryo Teatro Banda present new performances of “Magalhães”

Magalhães en el Teatro Finis Terrae

Francisco Sánchez, director, actor, musician, playwright and member of Escena Digital, presents, together with the company Tryo Teatro Banda, a series of new performances of the musical play Magalhães at the Teatro Finis Terrae in Santiago, Chile. The co-production between Tryo Teatro Banda, Matucana 100 Cultural Center, Maule Regional Theater and Ovalle Municipal Theater recounts the adventure of the Spanish expedition that discovered the Strait of Magellan 500 years ago, led by the Portuguese explorer Fernão de Magalhães. Performances will run until October 9.

Faithful to the company’s characteristic theatrical and musical style that reminds us of the ancient minstrels, Magalhães tells us about this exciting maritime adventure that led to the first meeting between foreign sailors and the southern inhabitants of Chile. A play for adults and children with very special guests: violin, tiple, accordion, electric bass, percussion and songs.

Until October 9, Francisco Sánchez, actor, composer, musician, playwright, stage director and member of the Escena Digital platform, will present, together with the company Tryo Teatro Banda, new performances of this work at the Teatro Finis Terrae, in Santiago de Chili. The musical work is a co-production between Tryo Teatro Banda, Matucana 100 Cultural Center, Maule Regional Theater and Ovalle Municipal Theater and has the participation of actors-musicians and production by Carolina González Iturriaga.

Plot

500 years ago, the kingdoms of Spain and Portugal fought to the death over the spice route. Cinnamon, pepper and cloves were the gold nugget of that moment. A Portuguese seafaring adventurer, Fernão Magalhães, led a risky expedition for the Spanish crown that sought to reach the Spice Islands in the Asia-Pacific by a new path. He not only discovered the passage that today bears his name, but also became the first circumnavigation of the Earth, proving that it was indeed round.

This is a story of mistrust, betrayal, danger, fantastic and terrifying mythologies, hunger, scurvy, shipwrecks, desertions, combats, rebellion, successes and failures… all the elements collude trying to make the expedition fail.
