Tryo Teatro Banda (Chile) joins Ópera Latinoamérica

With more than 25 productions and 4,000 performances to its name, the independent company Tryo Teatro Banda joins the network with its own way of approaching opera and musical theater. Its next premiere, «La Niña Violeta», an opera about Violeta Parra’s childhood, will take place in Chillán in March 2027.

Tryo Teatro Banda was founded in 2000 as an independent company with three aims: to create works about Chile and Ibero-America, to combine acting, music and poetry, and to tour places far from traditional arts circuits, always for all audiences.

Since then, it has staged more than 25 productions and given more than 4,000 performances in Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, England, Japan, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay. It has received several awards and co-produced with companies and institutions in Brazil, Ecuador and Spain, a path that remains open.

The minstrel’s craft

The company takes up the baton of the old minstrels to tell stories of Chile and Ibero-America, with live music and song at the center. Its work moves between theater, music, poetry, pantomime, object manipulation and circus, and from there it came to opera and musical theater, in collaboration with orchestras and chamber ensembles.

Its approach starts from the revival of minstrelsy and from an idea: the performing artist as a musical being. This craft is also cultivated off stage. Tryo Teatro Banda organizes the Fiesta de Juglares festival, which celebrated its third edition in 2026, and a School of Minstrelsy for young artists. It has also published three books with texts on the creative processes behind its works.

A network for cooperation

For the company, joining OLA means becoming part of a network of artists, managers and institutions who share opera, musical theater and other performing arts as the core of their artistic and human concerns, along with a commitment to cooperating in the development of these disciplines.

It arrives at this exchange with a broad repertoire, a full calendar of projects and a desire to co-produce.

What’s next: La Niña Violeta

The company is currently preparing the premiere of «La Niña Violeta», a minstrel-style one-person opera for a singer and a classical orchestra on stage, aimed at all audiences. The work, about Violeta Parra’s childhood, will be presented at the Teatro Municipal de Chillán with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Ñuble in March 2027.

Tryo Teatro Banda joins a network of more than 45 organizations in 12 countries across Ibero-America.
