Fundación Juan March is a family-run and privately funded institution established in 1955 by the financier Juan March Ordinas, with the mission of promoting culture in Spain, with no commitment other than the quality of its offerings and the benefit of the community it serves. Over the years, evolving social needs have inspired, within a consistent institutional identity, two different models of operation. For two decades, it functioned as a scholarship-granting foundation. Today, it is an operating foundation with its own programs—mostly long-term and always free of charge—designed to foster confidence in the principles of humanism in a time of uncertainty and opportunities heightened by the acceleration of technological progress.

In the field of music, the Foundation, at its headquarters in Madrid, organizes a concert season currently made up of around 150 events. Its programming draws inspiration from the last thousand years of music history—from the medieval period to today’s most diverse styles such as jazz, flamenco, and popular music—thus transcending what is commonly referred to as classical music.

Theatrical performance has also taken on particular significance over the past decade, with the production of operas, melodramas, and other small-format musical stage genres.
