El Teatro Municipal de Lima será el anfitrión de la 19ª Conferencia Anual de OLA en 2026

Recently joined to the Opera Latinoamérica (OLA) network, the Municipal Theater of Lima will host a new edition of the OLA Annual Conference in June 2026, bringing together representatives from theaters, festivals, and opera companies across Ibero-America.

From June 16 to 19, 2026, the Municipal Theater of Lima will serve as the host of the 19th Annual Conference of Opera Latinoamérica (OLA).

The theater in Peru’s capital joined OLA at the end of 2024 and will host an OLA conference for the first time. Organized annually, OLA conferences bring together representatives from the network’s member organizations to address goals and challenges, promote and circulate new projects, develop agreements and co-productions, and discuss issues concerning the future of opera in the region.

The most recent OLA conferences have been held at the Teatro Amazonas in Manaus, Brazil (2023), the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile (2024), and the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Spain (2025).

The announcement was made recently during the 18th Annual OLA Conference, held from June 17 to 20, 2025, with the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia as the host theater. Titled Theaters: Audiences and Ideas for the Future, this edition brought together representatives from various Ibero-American theaters, festivals, and opera companies, in addition to meetings with the organization Ópera XXI and a series of sessions reflecting on topics such as artistic programming and sustainability in the performing arts.

The Municipal Theater is one of the main venues for the performing arts in the city of Lima. The building was inaugurated in July 1915 under the name Teatro Forero—in honor of Manuel María Forero, its principal promoter.

In 1929, the Municipality of Lima acquired the theater, renaming it Teatro Municipal. After a fire occurred during rehearsals for a performance in 1998, the theater was closed, restored, renovated, and reopened in August 2010. Today, the theater is represented by Miguel Molinari of the Culture Management Office of the Municipality of Lima.
