From stage to screen: Enjoy the opera-tango María de Buenos Aires by Teatro del Bicentenario de San Juan

 “From stage to screen” is the possibility of enjoying free the Teatro del Bicentenario de San Juan from home in the context of the pandemic context. This Saturday, July 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Argentina, are released on Facebook interviews with the prominent artists and directors who were part of the staging; while on July 25, at 7:00 p.m. , the opera tango be broadcast on Facebook María from Buenos Aires will.

 

In this segment, you will be able to know the challenges faced by María’s protagonists; the acclaimed Armenian Argentine mezzo – soprano, Solange Merdinian, starred in the María porteña; while Diego Flores; lyrical singer, chorus singer and tango singer; embodied the different and multifaceted characters created by Ferrer. El Duende, meanwhile, was played by Silvio Guevara.

 

On the other hand, the public will have the opportunity to delight in the tango-dance choreography by the renowned guest choreographer Leonardo Cuello, who was in charge of the choreographic direction; while Victoria Balanza interpreted an aspect of Maria herself through her hypnotic dance.  

 

Under the musical direction of Esteban Calderón, the live orchestra performs on stage, immersed in a sordid and dark Buenos Aires landscape. With Calderón on bandoneon and Leo Marconi on piano, the “piazzollinas” sounds evoked nostalgia and passion for the suburb. 

 

The stage direction, scenographic and costume designs of the renowned scenographer Sergio Massa, managed to make sense of Ferrer’s poems and Piazzolla’s chords. In Massa’s voice, this staging “seeks to embody the orphanhood, love and cruelty of this imaginary and marginal, timeless and surreal site.”
