One Stage, a Thousand Emotions: The Season Celebrating Ten Years in the Main Hall

In February, the Main Hall welcomed the renowned international saxophonist Melissa Aldana as part of a new edition of the Jazz Festival, inaugurating the year with an evening of music of the highest artistic calibre.

The programme continues in March with Reflejos de Macondo, a concert-experience inspired by the literary universe of One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, offering a sensory encounter between music and imagery. In April, the Teatro will present Mujeres Argentinas, the iconic creation by Ariel Ramírez and Félix Luna, brought to life once again on the Main Hall stage of the TB through a fully staged and original production, conceived especially by the Teatro during the 2023 season.

From May to July, the Teatro del Bicentenario will celebrate the traditional Galas Patrias, special performances that invite audiences to commemorate Argentina’s founding dates through the performing arts. In June, dance takes centre stage with Carmina Burana, the renowned choreographic version by Mauricio Wainrot, an original production by the Teatro that has become one of the cornerstone works of its repertoire. July will see the return of El Brote, the acclaimed play by Emiliano Dionisi starring Roberto Peloni, a theatrical work that intensely explores the boundaries between fiction and reality.

In August, music will once again take a leading role with the fourth edition of the Festival Cuyo Contemporáneo, dedicated to contemporary musical creation, and the International Festival of Children’s and Youth Choirs “En el canto hay unidad”, which will bring together young voices from different regions. That same month, the TB stage will welcome Los Nocheros, indisputable icons of Argentine folklore.

The programme continues in September with Moliendo a Molière, an original production by the Teatro del Bicentenario directed by Emiliano Dionisi and specifically designed for children and young audiences. This initiative is part of the Theatre’s Introduction to the Arts for Children and Adolescents programme, an educational project that will allow thousands of children across the province to enjoy free performances, promoting access to the performing arts as a valuable tool for education, the development of sensitivity, and community building.

Also featured will be La Delio Valdez, one of Latin America’s most representative cumbia orchestras, a performance celebrating the power of collective energy, dance, and popular identity. With their unmistakable sound, the band offers a festive and overwhelming experience, where cumbia becomes a shared language that brings people together in celebration.

September continues with the performance of Elena Roger, acclaimed on the world’s most prestigious stages. Roger presents an intimate and emotive concert, where her voice and interpretation traverse iconic songs that form part of the collective imagination. Accompanied on piano by Nicolás Guerschberg, the artist invites the audience to experience music of profound sensitivity, making this performance a highlight of the season and a point of pride for the province’s cultural life.

In October, opera takes centre stage with La Traviata, the emblematic work by Giuseppe Verdi, in a Teatro Colón production restaged by the Teatro del Bicentenario, also revisiting the opera with which the Main Hall opened ten years ago. During November, the Teatro will present Brothers, a world premiere and original production inspired by the correspondence between Vincent and Theo van Gogh.

That same month, the Teatro del Bicentenario will welcome the Ballet Estable del Teatro Colón, under the direction of Julio Bocca, with Swan Lake, one of the most emblematic works of the classical repertoire. The arrival of the Ballet Estable del Teatro Colón represents an artistic event of great symbolic and cultural significance, as it will present the full version of Swan Lake, which has only rarely been performed in its entirety in San Juan.

The season will conclude in December with Dios Salve a la Reina, the internationally acclaimed tribute to the band Queen, and with the season-closing concert by La Camerata, celebrating the year’s artistic journey with the audience.
