Teatro Colón of Bogotá will celebrate Children’s Day with a digital festival

From April 23 to 26, the first version of the Family Color Festival will be held. A space to virtually celebrate Children’s Day with theatre, music, opera, workshops and a virtual tour to learn the secrets and stories of the most emblematic theatre in Colombia. All the cultural offer will be online and free.

 

On Saturday, April 24, Children’s Day will be commemorated, an annual day dedicated to promoting the well-being and rights of the world’s children. For this reason, Teatro Colón de Bogotá will organize the first edition of the Famila Color Festival, a free digital event with theatre, music, workshops and guided tours, which will take place from April 23 to 26.

 

The works that will be broadcasted will have audio description or interpretation, and subtitling into Colombian sign language, which will make this festival an accessible offer for all the public. The transmissions can be seen from the Facebook (@miteatrocolon) and YouTube (Teatro Colón Bogotá) profiles.

 

“On this occasion, the Colón will reach all those families who are at home, with theater, music, opera, and a special project that has a script, original music and all the indications to make a theatrical work devised from its origin , for children; “Theatre to do at home” is the opportunity to meet as a family and feed the unlimited imagination that children have. At the same time, the theater will continue to accompany teachers in their virtual classes, guaranteeing quality cultural content, and making culture an essential component of school education, ”says Claudia Del Valle, director of the Teatro Colón de Bogotá.

 

Theatre, opera and a concert to enjoy at home

 

On Saturday, April 24, at 9:00 am, a bitter and squared vampire will open the digital programming with the work ‘Ramiro and his ghosts‘, the story of a supernatural being who lives in his old castle, to whom an unexpected visit it will change your life.

 

Later, at 10:00 am, the most famous feline in the western imagination will meet the public again thanks to ‘Puss in Boots’, a magical and colorful opera with music by Xavier Montsalvatge and based on a popular European fantasy tale written by Charles Perrault, which narrates the life of a miller of humble origins who inherits a cat, which, without knowing it, will make him the Marquis of Carabás.

 

Finally, at 11:00 am, Colón Theatre will become a live stage full of vegetation thanks to ‘An enchanted forest’, a concert that takes up the ancestral knowledge of the indigenous people and their connection with nature, to give a message of responsibility and care towards the environment.

Workshops, virtual tours and activities for schools

 

The Colón Theatre will offer workshops for children and their companions to get closer to the performing arts and learn to recreate, from anywhere in the world, works written by Colombian playwrights. In each kit there will be a script, illustrations, audio tracks and instructions to carry out different staging.

 

On this occasion the participants will learn acting techniques, elements of corporal expression and basic notions of stage direction, with the works ‘Intruders in the window‘ by Irene Vasco (Saturday, April 24 at 3:30 pm) and ‘The red door’ by Daniel Orrantia (Sunday, April 25 at 10:00 am). In addition, there will be four multisensory workshops for schools, in which students and teachers will be able to better understand, appreciate and enjoy the works of the Festival. Everything from the senses and recreational activities; quotas until full capacity. The offer is composed of:

 

– ‘Ramiro y sus fantasmas’ (April 23 / 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m.): The corporal expression of the emotions found in the work will be explored: joy, sadness, anger, rage and acceptance. In addition, through the stories and characters, the participants will be able to identify the elements of clown, musical theater and physical theater present in this show.

 

– ‘Puss in Boots’ (April 23 / 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.): What are the characteristics of lyrical art? How does a literary work become an opera? Students will answer these questions through participatory exercises to build stories and scenery.

 

– ‘An enchanted forest’ with Colombian sign language (April 26 / 8:00 am to 10:30 am): This workshop that articulates music and biology, will take a tour of the animals that appear in the work such as the wolf, the spider, the hummingbird and the owl, whose characteristics will be analyzed from musical exercises with Latin American rhythms.

Finally, on April 24, at 3:00 pm, a free virtual tour will be held for boys and girls between 7 and 12 years old, who, together with their companions, will learn about the history, anecdotes and technical peculiarities of the most emblematic theater in the country. Colombia celebrates children’s day:

 

On the weekend of April 23, 24 and 25, girls, boys and their families will have a varied program of activities, which will be informed by governments and municipalities through their social networks. All the information can be found with the numerals # SúmateJugando and # CrianzaAmorosa + Game.

 

For this tribute, carried out as stipulated by Law 724 of 2001, 306 girls, boys and adolescents were heard, who asked that this be a date in which to respect the social and cultural differences present in the 32 departments and the 1,078 municipalities that are part of this cultural offer, in which outdoor play will prevail, following the protocols and norms of covid-19 peaks of each city.
