OLA’s Vice President participates as a jury in Operalia

Operalia, Plácido Domingo’s World Opera Competition was held this year in Astana, Kazakhstan between 19 and 24 July. Andrés Rodríguez, Vice President of Opera Latinoamérica participated as a jury.

Year after year Operalia receives more than 1,000 applications and delivers a total prize fund of USD180,000. In this twenty-fifth version of the contest, the jury, presided over by Plácido Domingo as non-voting mediator, included distinguished professionals from the industry and representatives of important international theaters.

Among them was Andrés Rodríguez, Vice President of Opera Latinoamérica who was invited to participate for his outstanding career and contribution to the field of opera. Alongside him were Jonathan Friend, Art Director of the Metropolitan Opera (New York, USA) Dominique Meyer, Director of the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna, Austria), Peter Katona, Casting Director of the Royal Opera House (London, United Kingdom), Ilias Tzempetonidis, Director of Casting The National Opera of Paris (France), Joan Matabosch, Artistic Director of the Teatro Real (Madrid, Spain), among other renowned figures in the lyrical field.

Founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo to discover and help launch the careers of today’s most promising young opera singers. Its aim is to attract singers of all vocal types (from tenor to soprano) and from all countries in the world ranging from 18 to 32 years old, to be heard and heard by a panel of distinguished personalities of the opera International, in the most prestigious and competitive showcase of the world.
